Junior School

St John’s Grammar Junior School is a progressive, dynamic environment where children are taught the fundamental skills of literacy and numeracy as well as developing their social, communication and problem solving skills.

The core curriculum offers stimulation, variety and balance. It merges traditional academic subjects with equally important practical, spiritual and creative learning. Subjects include English, Mathematics, Computing, Society & Environment, Science, Technology, Health, Music, Arts, Physical Education, Religion and Values Education and Japanese. Instrumental programs provide instruments and tuition in a range of woodwind, brass, string and percussion instruments for all students in various year levels.

The Junior School program is comprehensive and flexible to adapt to today’s rapidly changing environment. Our boys and girls are given every opportunity to pursue their particular interests, strengths and goals. Junior School students participate in a wide range of interschool state wide and national competitions and have their own leadership positions with Year 6 House Captain and Vice-Captain roles.

“The vibrancy and warmth of our school promotes an active, challenging and safe environment. Across the year levels and stages of development, our children are encouraged, challenged and supported so that they are well equipped with the skills and knowledge that they will need for the future.”
Jill Bosanquet, Head of Junior School, 1998 - 2007.
