Scholarships
Scholarship applications for 2026 entry are now open.
St John’s Grammar offers a range of scholarships including Academic, Annesley, Drama, General Excellence, Music, Orchestral, Visual Arts, St Peter’s Woodlands and the Scholarship of St John.
Scholarship examinations, auditions and interviews are typically conducted in February, and offers made in March to commence the following year. Scholarships provide for a remission of tuition fees of up to 50 percent and it is expected that the recipients will complete their schooling at St John’s Grammar School.

Academic Scholarships
Applications for 2026 entry are open.
The ACER Scholarship test will be held on Saturday 1 February 2025.
This scholarship is available for students entering Years 5 – 12 and is awarded on the basis of results from the ACER testing. Students sit the exam at their school of first preference.

Annesley Scholarships
Applications for 2026 entry are open.
St John’s Grammar School offers limited scholarships for Year 7 or 8 entry, to students currently attending Annesley Junior School.
Students applying for an Annesley Scholarship should be able to demonstrate enthusiasm, participation and exceptional commitment in a diverse range of activities, which may include:
- Community involvement
- Leadership
- Extra-curricular involvement
- Persistence in academic pursuits
A successful Annesley Scholarship student will be expected to:
- Be a role model to other students
- Be a team player in all pursuits
- Contribute to School life and inspire others

Drama Scholarships
Applications for 2026 entry are open.
St John’s Grammar School offers Drama Scholarships to students not currently attending the Secondary Campus (Years 7 -12) who display excellence and/or outstanding potential in Drama.
St John’s Grammar School has a highly successful Drama program, and students are consistently provided with large practical performance opportunities within the school, wider community and around Australia.
Students applying for a Drama Scholarship should be able to demonstrate a sound understanding and knowledge of creating and presenting dramatic works, and an ability to perform with confidence; demonstrating focused and highly effective communication skills and stage craft.
A successful Drama Scholarship student will be expected to:
- Undertake Drama as a curriculum choice from Years 7 – 12
- Participate in at least two ensembles or Drama productions
- Represent the Performing Arts Department on special occasions as required
- Demonstrate a passion and love of performance, theatre and its crafts

General Excellence Scholarships

St John’s Grammar School offers General Excellence Scholarships to students not currently attending the Secondary Campus (Years 7 – 12).
Students applying for a General Excellence Scholarship should be able to demonstrate enthusiasm, participation and exceptional commitment in a diverse range of activities, which may include:

Music Scholarships
Applications for 2026 entry are open.
St John’s Grammar School offers Music Scholarships to students not currently attending the Secondary Campus (Years 7 – 12) who display excellence and/or outstanding potential in Music.
St John’s Grammar School has a highly successful music program, and students are consistently provided with large practical performance opportunities within the school, wider community and around Australia.
Students applying for a Music Scholarship should be able to demonstrate a sound technical ability in their chosen musical instrument/s or voice, and perform with musicality and interpretation.
A Music Scholarship recipient is expected to make a significant contribution to the musical life of St John’s Grammar School, and act as mentors and leaders to their peers in both the classroom and as part of Co-Curricular Ensembles.
A successful Music Scholarship student will be expected to:
- Undertake Music as a curriculum choice from Years 7-12
- Participate in at least two major ensembles, either instrumental or vocal
- Continue to take lessons with a private instrumental teacher. (These can be arranged through the School or organised privately.)

Orchestral Scholarships
Applications for 2026 entry are open.
St John’s Grammar School is offering Orchestral Music Scholarships to students not currently attending the Secondary Campus (Years 7 – 12) who display excellence and/or outstanding potential in Music on an orchestral instrument, specifically:
- Violin
- Viola
- Cello
- Double Bass
- Flute
- Trumpet
- Clarinet
- French Horn
St John’s Grammar School has a highly successful Music program, and students are consistently provided with large practical performance opportunities within the school, wider community and around Australia.
Students applying for an Orchestral Scholarship should:
- Be able to demonstrate a sound technical ability in their chosen musical instrument and perform with musicality and accuracy
- Currently undertake lessons from an instrumental music teacher on their chosen instrument
- Candidates showing an interest in choral signing will be highly considered
A successful Music Scholarship student will be expected to:
- Undertake Music as a curriculum choice from Years 7 – 12
- Participate in the Orchestra and at least one other major ensemble, whether instrumental or vocal
- Represent the Performing Arts Department on special occasions as required
- Continue to take lessons with a private instrumental teacher (arranged through the school or privately)

St Peter’s Woodlands Scholarships

St John’s Grammar School offers limited scholarships for Year 7 or 8 entry, to students currently attending St Peter’s Woodlands Grammar School.
Students applying for a SPW Scholarship should be able to demonstrate enthusiasm, participation and exceptional commitment in a diverse range of activities, which may include:
- Community involvement
- Leadership
- Extra-curricular involvement
- Persistence in academic pursuits
A successful SPW Scholarship student will be expected to:
- Be a role model to other students
- Be a team player in all pursuits

Scholarship of St John
(Gordon Hewitson Memorial Scholarship) Applications for 2026 entry are open.
St John’s Grammar School is currently offering limited Scholarships of St John to students not currently attending the School, entering into Reception to Year 12.
This scholarship offers an opportunity to provide a St John’s Grammar School education to a family who may otherwise not be able to afford one.
A Scholarship of St John will be considered for families based on their long-term financial situation and/or short-term hardship criteria.
As an example, St John is the patron saint of hospitals and the sick. A family who has been impacted by family illness or other situation beyond their control would be given consideration.
A successful Scholarship of St John student will be expected to:
- Be a role model to other students
- Be a team player in all pursuits
- Contribute to School life and inspire others

Visual Arts Scholarship
Applications for 2026 entry are open.
St John’s Grammar School is offering Visual Art Scholarships to students not currently attending Secondary Campus (Years 7 – 12), who display excellence and/or outstanding potential in Visual Art.
St John’s Grammar School has a highly successful Art and Design program, and students are consistently provided with opportunities to work with practicing artists and exhibit their work in a professional gallery within the School, wider community and around Australia.
Students applying for a Visual Art Scholarship should be able to demonstrate exceptional potential to develop their artistic expression.
It is expected that the candidate will maintain an extremely high standard of artistic practice and extend themselves artistically making use of opportunities offered at St John’s Grammar School.
A successful Visual Art Scholarship student will be expected to:
- Undertake Art as a curriculum choice from Years 7-12
- Participate in annual exhibitions in the Whitechapel Art Gallery
- Represent the Arts department on special occasions, as required
- Demonstrate a passion and love of Visual Art and Design
