If you have a love of science, think about entering the Oliphant Science Awards, the biggest science competition in South Australia.  Participation can be an important inclusion on University Applications and a great addition to your list of academic achievements!

STEP 1: Choose a Project

  • Check out the different project categories, listed on the Oliphant Science Awards Website
  • If you are interested in a Crystal Investigation or Scientific Inquiry, please contact me as soon as possible (sburzacottgorman@stjohns.sa.edu.au) because these categories have special requirements.
  • You can enter individually (any category) OR as a team of 3 (any category except in Science Writing and Posters).

STEP 2: Project Registration & Fees Consent

To participate, students must complete a registration form, and parents must complete a payment declaration online:

  • Complete and return the Project Registration Form, either by email to sburzacottgorman@stjohns.sa.edu.au OR print and drop in the Oliphant Box in P217 (Mrs Gorman’s Classroom).
  • Complete the online parent payment consent declaration. This form provides parent consent to have the Oliphant Science Awards registration fee attached to your school account. The fees are $16 for an individual entry and $24 ($8 per entrant) for a group entry.
  • THE FORM AND DECLARATION MUST BE RETURNED BY 2 MAY AT THE LATEST

STEP 3: Attend Drop-in Sessions

Completing an Oliphant Science Awards project requires students to invest time and effort both at school and at home. To support you with your project selection and completion, we will be running drop-in sessions during lunchtime on Mondays in P217 with Mrs Gorman during Term 1 and Term 2.

I am really excited to hear what our Secondary Campus students are planning to select and create. If we have the most entries across multiple year levels we could win the OLIPHANT TROPHY as a school community!

Yours sincerely,

Simone Burzacott-Gorman
