Do you work in the medical field? Would you be able to host a Japanese high school student for 4 weeks?
A 16 year old female Japanese student from our sister school in Hiroshima Japan is looking to be placed with a family from our school for 4 weeks from the start of Term 3 this year – 20 July.
She has applied for a scholarship with the Ministry of Education in Japan to come to Australia and look at our hospital and medical system. Currently in Japan, foreign workers and travellers are becoming more common and studies showed that fifty percent of Japanese hospitals accept the foreign patients but they are having problems understanding doctors and telling them about their symptoms because of the language barrier. Since there are diverse people from different countries, speaking different languages in Australia and staff work with all the time, she would like to know how the medical care team overcome the barrier of language. She is looking for a family who have links to the hospital or medical system that she could stay with. She will come to school here at St John’s each day and would like to visit a hospital or medical centre throughout the visit. She would pay a small homestay fee.
