Our play is performed in the style of Commedia dell’Arte, one of the most influential theatrical forces in shaping the history of comedy. It originated in the market places in Italy in the early 1500’s, where street performers used masks, acrobatics, exaggerated gestures, clowning and slap stick comedy to produce improvised and spontaneous plays that made fun of society and its institutions. The central themes explore the human frailties that ordinary people possess, like jealousy, greed and conceit and also the pursuit of love. Our production is a ‘call out’ to these traditional features but as in past times, we take opportunities to include topical events and popular culture.

I hope you can attend our Comedia dell’Arte play, and share in the fun and joy of what is a demanding, skillful and, hopefully, highly entertaining performance.
