Greetings from the Parents and Friends! It has been a while since I last wrote a newsletter article, so I figured it was time to update you on the ‘P&F doings’ over the last few months.

Junior School Barbecue Season is mostly finished, aside from one more JP Fun Day at the end of Term 3.  We have successfully organised/undertaken five major barbecues for Junior School students over the past two months and a big ‘thank you’ to all those who helped, especially:

  • Emma Donaghey and Kellie Desteno, who were the main behind-the-scenes organising crew
  • Parent Reps in classes, for coordinating volunteers to help on the day
  • Slape and Sons for providing the (many many) sausages, Bakers Delight Blackwood for donating the bread and GD Wholesale for providing the fruit.

Thanks also for all those who baked cupcakes, turned a sausage, handed out food, washed dishes etc… many hands really do make light work! Together we managed to raise over $5,000 for the school – what a great start to the year!

Melissa Squires and her crew also hosted the annual P&F Mother’s Day stall at the Junior School, this year taking over $2,000 in sales on the day – what a success! Many thanks to Mel and her hardworking team for putting together such an enticing selection of goodies for our Mum’s.

You may recall at the end of last year, the P&F committed funds towards a projector/screen in the Junior School hall. This has been trickier than first thought and after extensive research, the Junior School staff have come up with a versatile, portable digital screen that will be useful for ceremonies and assemblies and possibly even movie nights! P&F have agreed to cover the whole cost of this item, approximately $12,000 in the understanding it will be a highly valued asset for the whole Junior School community.

Huge congratulations to Bronwyn Sharpe and Daina Booth on their vision for improving the nature play space in the Junior School. If you haven’t had a peek at the front yard, do yourself a favour and do a drive-by on Sheoak road – it looks amazing! This project is the result of much research, discussion, planning and collaboration between Junior School staff, property services and specialist play space advisors and with a ‘let’s just do it’ attitude and finally a family working bee, the end product is a great improvement. Of course there are some very happy children to boot!

In case you were wondering, the improvements to the Sheoak carpark space made possible by the federal Stronger Communities Grant, will actually be happening soon. We are looking forward to renovating the very tired looking garden beds near the outdoor sitting space and installing some community seating out the front of the café. This will greatly improve this space for use by the local community as well as our school families.

Finally, we are very excited to announce a ‘Save the Date’ for a family-friendly Bingo night to be held on Saturday August 10 (Week 3, Term 3). This will be a relaxed BYO food/drinks night, children welcome, in the Secondary School sports centre. We are planning tables of 10, so start talking and find a group of friends… keep your eyes peeled for more information out soon.
