Mary Mags Dinner Donations

St John’s Grammar has committed to supporting Mary Mags Dinners twice each year with our second meal campaign happening this Saturday. A large number of staff, students and parents have committed to the day (it starts at 9am and finishes at 7.30pm) with the quest to cook a three course dinner for over 300 people who are most in need in the city of Adelaide.  The group called ‘Mary Mags Dinners’ has been committed to working for people experiencing financial difficulties or homelessness for over 30 years. It all started with sandwiches in Hurtle Square in 1989 and since then over 80,000 meals have been prepared.

Mary Mags Dinners is only made possible through the efforts of many volunteers, churches, schools, law firms and other groups who generously donate their time, money and labour to provide a meal for our guests on a Saturday night. Each Saturday event costs about $1000 in food and St John’s Grammar intends to provide two of these dinners per year. Money raised from our Secondary Campus ‘Crazy Sox Day’ tomorrow will go towards the campaign but we will need more and I am appealing to any interested family of the School for donations. These can be left with Carol Brown at Retreat House reception or you contact me directly at randerson@stjohns.sa.edu.au. Our intention each year is to open this up to a variety of different student groups in the school and their families.

Yours sincerely,

Richard Anderson
