Junior School Art

All students in our Junior School receive Art lessons taught by a specialist teacher each week. Across the year levels they have explored concepts such as painting, collage, drawing, construction and printmaking.
Reception
In Art lessons, Reception students have been learning about construction. They have experimented with using clay, especially focussing on how it feels, how to mould it and join it and how to imprint patterns onto it. They then painted their clay owls. They have been learning about form.
Year 1
In Art lessons, Year 1 students have been learning about painting. They studied the artwork by Wayne Thiebaud, especially his artwork of ice creams. They then used black marker and watercolour to make their artwork look delicious
Year 2
In Art lessons, Year 2 students have been learning about collage. They studied the artwork by Australian artist Andria Beighton. First they drew simple floral arrangements in her style. Then they used that image to create their collage using paper. They were learning joining techniques as well as composition of still life.

Year 3
In Art lessons, Year 3 students have been learning about observational drawing. We discussed the proportions of the face. They used mirrors to look at their faces and to draw the details of their own face to create a self portrait. They have been learning about proportions, shape and the use of line.

Year 4
In Art lessons, Year 4 students have been learning about painting in the negative. They looked at various artists such as Kirsty Shadiac, Chris Cozen & Christina Hull to see how they paint in the negative space. They then painted their background, drew a image onto their background and then painted the negative space with a block colour. They have been learning about positive and negative space.

Year 5
In Art lessons, Year 5 students have been learning about drawing. They studied artwork by MC Escher and then created tessellation artwork in his style. They have been learning about shape, repetition of shape, and the use of space in their artwork.

Year 6
In Art lessons, Year 6 students have been learning about printmaking. They had lots of fun carving designs into lino and then printing them onto paper. They have been learning about the processes involved with cutting lino and printing, as well as the use of line and texture.
