Year 7 Camp - Final Arrangements and Instructions

Dear Parents

The Year 7 Camp to Hindmarsh Island is next week, Monday 26 March to Thursday 29 March.

Students have been issued with the following information, the Camp Booklet and the Menu Planning Booklet. For your convenience, these can also be accessed at the end of this email. Spare copies of these documents can also be collected from the Middle School Office.

Address of Base Camp: 323 Randell Road, Hindmarsh Island, South Australia

St John’s Grammar staff attending:
Billy Cook, Chris Raymond, Natalie McKenzie, Ian Miller, Paul Travis and Charlie Thompson. School Counsellor, Carolyn Markey, will be coming down to camp for one day to join in with Base Camp activities.

On Monday 26 March May, students are to arrive at School no later than 8.15am, leaving their bags against the fence outside of the School between the two Gloucester Avenue entrances. Students then assemble inside the School grounds in the area between the Pargeter Building and Warden House to await further instructions. If it is raining, bags can be placed under the ground floor Pargeter Building veranda.

Students are reminded that the following items are not permitted on camp:

  • Mobile phones
  • Electronic games
  • Electronic listening devices such as iPods, MP3 players etc.

Students are advised to take careful note of their ‘What to Bring’ list and ensure that they bring with them recess, lunch and a drink for Monday and most importantly, their expedition food. While (nut free) scroggin is encouraged, large quantities of sugary lollies are not permitted. Wilderness Escape supplies tents, trangias and roller mats for the overnight expedition.

Students who require adult supervised medication on camp are to forward their requirements in a named sealed container to their respective expedition staff leader. However, those with asthma, or have other notified self-administered medications, can keep their medication with them. Nicki Paterson has prepared medication kits for those with emergency requirements.

Whilst on camp, in the case of an emergency, contact can be made as follows:

  • Wilderness Escape: 8165 2022 and 0412 719 716
  • Paul Travis: 0425 622 843
  • Ben Clark: 0416 577 001
  • Nicki Paterson: 8278 0214 during office hours

The students are scheduled to return to School on Friday 29 March between 2.30pm and 3pm. We ask that parents do not contact the School to seek a return time. If there are any changes to this time we will notify all parents of an estimated arrival time via the Parents Facebook Page, or by email.

Parking on Gloucester Avenue will be restricted on Monday morning and Friday afternoon to accommodate the buses. Parents are asked not to park on Gloucester Avenue at those times.

In case of an unforeseen delay, students who were planning to rely on the St John’s School bus for transport home from School are asked to make alternative arrangements.

Yours sincerely

Paul Travis
