The Gala Ball, Uniform Shop, Parent Choir and more!

Happy New Year to you all, and welcome to another busy year at St John’s Grammar!  I hope you have started the year feeling refreshed and relaxed, because if your calendar is anything like mine, that feeling will soon be a distant memory!  I am trying to get to as many acquaintance nights as I can to be able to let you know what the P&F have in store for the year, and how you can be involved – those of you with multiple children in different year levels are probably sick of me by now!  But I figure it is a great way to put you all in the picture, and at the very least you know who to ask when you are considering putting your hand up for a job!!!

The beginning of the year is always a hectic time for P&F as we coordinate Junior School sausage sizzles, acquaintance nights, Welcome drinks and get multiple other items up and running for the year.  We have been busy over the holidays moving the Second Hand Uniform shop to a new location – we now have a room to ourselves in the Railway Cottages on the Junior campus.  If you haven’t popped in yet, our opening times for the term are on the School website, we would love to see you!  We have lots of stock, especially in senior sizes, and try to have an up-to-date stock list on the Facebook page so feel free to come and have a look.

The Gala Ball committee haven’t been idle either, and plans for Saturday 20 October are bubbling along nicely.  Save the Date notices should be out soon, and we will be asking for ways that our community can contribute to make this not only a fun night, but a great fundraiser too.  Watch this space…

Nancy Williams has also been making plans over the Summer for her Lunchtime Stitching group in the Junior school.  They are again meeting Thursdays in the Indonesian Room – her email is, costs are $100 for the term, please contact her for more information if your child is interested in being involved.  She is also planning to start a group in the Secondary School after school on Tuesdays, but this will commence in Term 2.

We are still looking for a Coordinator of Mothers Day & Fathers Day stalls in the Junior School.  This involves ordering items for sale at these stalls, deciding on prices and advertising them during the preceding week, then organising the trestle tables and selling on the day of the Stall.  Chris Cuthill has done this for the past few years, and is happy to pass on all her knowledge and experience!

St John’s Grammar Parent Choir ‘Parental Guidance Recommended’ have also recommenced singing on Tuesday nights, 6.45 – 7.45pm  in The John Bray Centre for Performing Arts under the guidance of Junior School music director Jenny Chapman and pianist Lena Clark.  If you love to sing, please feel welcome to come along!  Cost is $10 to attend casually, or $65 if you pay for the whole term.

So as you can see, the relaxation is all over and it is back into the chaos with a bang!
