Signing off from the P&F for 2017!

We have had our final Parents and Friends meeting for 2017, and are beginning to lock in plans for next year.

It is at this time of year that we take the opportunity to review our funds, in light of our fundraising efforts during the year, and determine how much we have a surplus to donate to projects within the school.  As you know, we didn’t run a major fundraiser this year, and while all our activities like barbecues, cupcake days, entertainment books and community raffles do boost our accounts, they don’t generate a particularly large amount of money. We also donated a significant amount – $25,000 – towards the kitchen in The John Bray Centre for Performing Arts earlier this year, so the accounts were looking a little lean! However, in addition to this donation, we have also decided to support the School Pedal Prix team by contributing $5,000 to the purchase of a new vehicle. Pedal Prix is a fabulous sport involving students from the Junior, Middle and Senior School students, and we hope our contribution will help build the profile and boost the numbers of students involved in Pedal Prix in St John’s.

As we plan for next year’s activities, we note that some of our volunteers have indicated they are ready to pass the baton for 2018.  These roles are up for grabs, and we would love to hear from you if you are interested in being involved;

  • Coordinator of Mothers Day & Fathers Day stalls in the Junior School.  This involves ordering items for sale at these stalls, deciding on prices and advertising them during the preceding week, then organising the trestle tables and selling on the day of the Stall.  Chris Cuthill has done this for the past few years, and is happy to pass on all her knowledge and experience!
  • Cupcake Day organiser in the Junior School.  Kirsty Curnow did a fabulous job this year, and has promised to return to the role in 2019… so if there is someone who wouldn’t mind coordinating four Cupcake days (one each term), we would love to hear from you!

I hope you and your families enjoy the long Summer break, and return refreshed and invigorated in January.  Merry Christmas to all!
