Embedding good practices at home

After all of the learning achieved by students last term; the operations of the Middle School and how the year will work; about how much opportunity there is for students to create experiences and shape the culture of the school; after the academic learning from Term 1; and after the social and emotional development from the term, there has been time for rest and reflection. Now that the new term has begun, students should be steeled and ready to build greatly on that beginning!

To complement this, ensuring sound routines and support at home is critical right now; nutrient dense meals, plenty of water, at least nine hours sleep, relaxing pre-sleep routines (screens off well before bed), a reliable space to do homework, creating and using a basic timetable for after school activities including exercise and free time, talking with family about school, about work, etc. If these basics are worked on and supported in a sustained way (we may not get it right everyday, that’s for sure!) then we are helping our young adolescent children to get the most out of their school day and their learning opportunities. At the same time, we’ll be helping them learn effective life-balance habits for their future. These quality basics will help for what will be a busy and exciting term. To name but a few, we’ve had Generations in Jazz, are currently running Year 8 camp, looking ahead we have excursions, Winter sport, a combined Anglican school’s service, da Vinci Decathlon, the Journey to Vietnam, etc. and of course subject based assignments.

A reminder for our mothers and carers who are invited to the Middle School Mothers’ Day Afternoon Tea that the Middle School will be hosting on Friday 19 May. This will take place in the courtyard area outside the Pargeter Building (Middle School Office), from 3.30-4.30pm. This event is a community occasion and a special opportunity for students and their families to share some time together and acknowledge the importance of mothers. There will be hot drinks, something nice to eat, music, readings and games to entertain those in attendance. For catering purposes, please RSVP to Nicki Paterson by Friday 12 May.
