From the P&F - December 2016

The final newsletter for 2016 – yippee! Clearly that means I should be much further advanced in my Christmas baking and shopping than I actually am, however that also means we are much closer to some lazy summer mornings and making a serious dent in my holiday reading… lots to look forward to!

By the time you read this, we will have distributed all of the Kytons orders so hopefully the goods made it home safely and you are enjoying your goodies.  This fund-raiser contributed a little over $500 to the P&F fund-raising for the year, so thank you very much! Speaking of fund-raising, at our last meeting of the year our Treasurer Neil McNish presented the end-of-year accounts and we determined that we had indeed met our target this year of raising $25,000 for the naming rights to the kitchen in the new Performing Arts Centre. Congratulations to our fantastic community for getting on board to help throughout the year, nice that the hard work has paid off! We have also used funds this year to purchase the Coin Counter for Lara in the Junior School, and have put aside some money to fit out the new Secondhand Uniform space.  If you are interested in more detailed information about the money we raise throughout the year, or about what we spend it on, please email us and we can fill you in with as much detail as you need!

Another good use for our hard-earned funds is the Welcome Drinks at the beginning of the year.  Please put Friday 3 February 2017 6-8pm in your diary – the P&F put on drinks and nibbles, and it is a great way to kick off the New Year greeting friends and welcoming new families to our school community.

With 2017 in mind, we are also still deciding on a suitable community event for next year.  I have put together a quick survey to gather your thoughts and ideas – if you haven’t already seen it on Facebook, you might like to complete the survey here and let us know.

On that note, I will sign off by sending a big thank you to my committee for their dedication and hard work throughout the year.  Felicity and Neil McNish, Sue Johnston, Amanda Jarvis, Chris Cuthill, and our recent recruits Pam Wallace, Sam Wood and Briony Milne, are all wonderful people who go out of their way to help build this great community.  Sadly, Sue has decided to resign from the committee and has taken on a role on the School Board – thank you for your efforts over the four years that you have been on the P&F Sue, and we wish you all the best as you continue to serve our school community in a different capacity.  And for the rest of our St John’s family, I hope you all have a very safe and happy festive season, and a well-deserved relaxing break over January.
