The Principal, staff and students of St John's Grammar celebrate the many and varied achievements of our students, both in and out of school.  We're pleased to share some successes with you.

Co-Curricular Activities

DEBATING

Year 10 Debaters Angie Eagles, Jarred Blanchette,  Liam McGeagh and James Biddle have, for the third consecutive year, won the Grand Final.

Performing and Visual Arts

Thomas Voss (Year 9) has won the AMEB prize for Grade 4 Viola and Mae Napier-Traeger Year 7) the AMEB prize for Grade 5 Violin.  This acknowledges the top result in SA in their categories.

Emma Brennan (Year 8) achieved an A in her AMEB Grade 7 Piano Exam in November 

ADELAIDE FLUTE EISTEDDFOD 2011

Keira Simmons (Year 10) received 2nd place in the 18 Years and Under Flute Solo section and an Honorable Mention in the 16 Years and under Flute Solo section.
Eliza Dickson (Year 11) received 3rd place in the 16 Years and Under section.
Lottie Dickson (Year 9) received 2nd place in the Grade 4 Flute Solo section.

Kate Woodbridge (Year 10) has received an A (Honours) for her recent AMEB Grade 4 Flute exam.

Alisha Johns (Year 11) has won First Place in the Blackwood Rotary Art Show.  Ellen Thomas (Year 10) was Highly Commended.

Ashleigh Burnard (Year 8) has embarked on a year with the Adelaide Youth Sinfonia.  With encouragement from the the St John's Grammar School music teachers, Ashleigh applied for an audition late last year with the Adelaide Youth Orchestra as a violinist and was successful in securing one of the eight positions on offer. With over 100 people between the age of 12 and 18 years who auditioned for places in the Orchestra for 2011, this was an incredible effort.   Ashleigh, along with the 59 other members of the Sinfonia Orchestra, will be playing at several concerts throughout the year, including at the Adelaide Town Hall and Elder Hall.

Lucy Brown (Year 8) competed in the state finals of Rostrum Voice of Youth at Parliament House during the July holidays, and Jono Blieschke (Year 11) in the state finals of the Plain English Speaking Award at Legacy House.

UNSW Computing Competition

Computing

Eight students from Years 5 and 6 participated in the University of New South Wales ICAS Computing Competition in May.  Year 5 student, Seb Deverson, achieved a credit and Year 6 Bailey Hornabrook a Distinction.  Congratulations to all students involved.

Science

11 students from St John’s Grammar Junior School participated in the Science competition this year.  All students competed well.  Stuart Henshall and Catherine Matters both achieved credits, and Joshua Lam and Ali Teubner achieved distinctions.

Spelling

Last term, 17 Junior School students completed the Spelling competition.
Credits were awarded to Emma Simpson-Smith, Mackenzie May, Jarryd Lee, Claire Denley, Joshua Carey and Ashlin Blieschke.  Natalie Whyatt, William Mussared, Bailey Hornabrook, and Stuart Henshall all achieved distinctions. Congratulations to Aidan Scrafton who achieved a high distinction placing him in the top 1 percent of Year 6 participants in South Australia and the Northern Territory.

Mathematics

In Term 3, 22 Year 5 and 6 students completed the ICAS Mathematics competition.  Credits were awarded to Joshua Carey, Aidan Mackereth, Aaron Rutherford, Ali Teubner, Cooper Atkinson, Craig Atkinson.  Congratulations to Ella Anderson, Matthew Birkby-Ras, Joshua Lam, William Mussared, Natalie Whyatt, Bailey Hornabrook and Gregory Howlett who achieved distinctions.  Well done to all students involved

Writing

In June five students participated in the ICAS Writing competition.  Joshua Carey from Year 5 and Cooper Atkinson from Year 6 both were awarded credits for their work.

English

The ICAS English competition was held in August and 12 students from the Junior School participated.  Ella Anderson, Aidan Mackereth, Stuart Henshall and Aidan Scrafton all achieved credits.  Ali Teubner and Gregory Howlett received distinctions.  Congratulations to all involved.
