Music Scholarships 2009
Music Scholarships will be awarded following auditions in St Barnabas’ Chapel on Monday 23 February and/or Tuesday 24 February 2009 , and successful candidates will be expected to be involved in the St John''s music program.
As a guide, candidates should have attained a minimum standard, or equivalent, of Third Grade AMEB on their instrument for Years 7 and 8, and Fourth Grade AMEB for Year 11. Students who do not satisfy this criterion should contact the Head of Music on 8278 0234 before applying.
St John's offers a small number of Instrumental Scholarships for students entering Years 3, 4 or 5 in 2009 who are prepared to study a second instrument from the brass or reed families. Selection will be by audition and interview only. Fees associated with music tuition and instrument hire will be paid by the school for the second instrument. Students will be required to audition again in Year 6 to apply for a Music Scholarship for his or her secondary education.

All music candidates:
· should prepare at least two contrasting pieces to be performed at the audition. These pieces should reflect the student’s technical ability and musicality. The maximum total length of all pieces should not exceed 6 minutes.
· should prepare for short aural and sight-reading tests, and will be asked a series of questions in interview style by the panel.
· should arrive at least fifteen minutes prior to the scheduled audition time and report to Reception in the Pargeter Building, 43 Gloucester Ave, Belair.
· will be provided with a piano and music stand, as necessary.
· will be allocated a warm-up area which may be used prior to the audition. Instrument cases, etc. may be stored in this room.
Parents and/or music teachers will not be permitted in the audition room unless they are acting as the student’s piano accompanist.
