Behaviour support

Our school will provide a safe, caring, orderly learning environment in which the rights of all participants are supported and protected.

By

• Setting acceptable and logical standards and guidelines which are reasonable, consistent, attainable and understood

• Having clear, understood stages of consequences for unacceptable behaviour

• Teaching and modelling responsible behaviour, promoting values characteristic of the Christian faith, and expressing the love and respect for one another through being caring, supportive and protective.

• Providing regular opportunities for students to contribute to the establishment of a safe and caring school environment.

• Providing well-managed environments with all teachers being vigilant, sensitive, pro-active and consistent in promoting appropriate student behaviour.

• Establishing effective, open and accessible links of communication between, staff, students and parents.

Our school will develop in students an acceptance of responsibility for their own behaviour and actions.

•Clarifying the unique needs and protocols of the school and classroom environment

• Involving students in decisions about behaviour, by having the opportunities to discuss and practice appropriate behaviour

• Ensuring that components of the academic and non-academic curriculum promote responsibility within the student through experience, opportunity and reflection.

• Counselling and mentoring - students need support to identify problems and to find solutions

Our school supports the development and management of positive behaviour as part of its learning program.

By

• Maintaining behaviour support as a focus of the House and pastoral programs of the school

• Developing key ideas and strategies for positive and successful behaviours particularly within the Health and Personal Development curriculum.

• Providing opportunities for students to participate in Leadership programs and activities.

Our school will provide pathways to resolutions and/or support in dealing with issues in the lives of students that are related to poor behaviour.

By

• Discussing issues and possible solutions or avenues of support with students (problem-sharing) and involving parents at every possible opportunity in discussing the issues and strategies.

• Including the key elements of Program Achieve in a Mentoring program and within the Middle Years Curriculum.

• Having a referral procedure for all student concerns that require professional services at the consent of the students &  parents.
