Student Support
The School endeavours to develop the full potential of each child, and accordingly to provide tuition appropriate to the needs of all children, including the gifted and those with special needs. The School is recognised for its program of assisting individual learning wherever possible.
Each child’s positive self-concept is considered to be a most important factor in shaping self-assurance and confidence. This happens in a caring and sharing community where the relationship between the teachers and children are considered to be very important. The student’s awareness and tolerance of the needs of others are encouraged. Self-reliance, initiative, co-operation, kindness, self-discipline and a sense of moral judgement are fostered as well.
Our aim is to provide an education and environment, which encourages each child to develop social skills, spiritual growth, artistic competence, emotional stability and positive attitudes towards academic studies. Students are guided in their development of self-esteem, a sense of responsibility, self-discipline and respect for others, based on established Christian principles. St John’s Grammar's fine reputation results from the high quality and dedicated approach of the carefully selected staff. At our School it is our aim for your child to be encouraged to develop that inward strength to hold fast to things that are good. Each child in our School is carefully nurtured and challenged in a caring, disciplined and friendly environment.
A number of well-researched policies support positive student behaviour in the school and the wider community. The emphasis of these guiding policies is on encouraging the student to make sensible decisions about their actions. When student behaviour becomes a concern, strategies employed include a Mentor program, daily work contracts and Program Achieve. Importantly action is mostly collaborative - there is an excellent, regular communication and recording process between the student, staff and parents.
