Junior School Curriculum

The core curriculum includes English, Mathematics, Society & Environment, Science, Technology, Health Education, Music, the Arts, Physical Education, Religious and Values Education (RAVE), and Indonesian.

RAVE is offered within the framework of the Anglican Church and the loving, respectful and caring philosophy of the school. Through the example of the Chaplain and all staff, each child has models of positive, Christian living.

Physical Education at St John's Grammar aims to develop a positive attitude towards physical activity. All students participate in weekly sessions with the specialist Physical Education Teacher. A wide range of physical activities is used to assist in the students' physical and social development with a major emphasis on sportsmanship and positive lifestyle attitudes.

Since the beginning of 2011 all Junior School students from R-6 study Indonesian with a specialist teacher and all classroom teachers include the Indonesian language in their teaching.  We aim to promote an awareness and to broaden students' knowledge of cultural diversity within our community at all year levels.

Another new addition to the curriculum for 2011 is Art being taught by a specialist Art teacher. This introduction coincides with the opening of the new Centre for Creativity and its dedicated Art space.

The St John's Grammar Junior Campus places great importance on the teaching of numeracy and literacy. We also support students in the development of skills in technology and computing, communication, social living and problem solving. This helps equip children to be effective and articulate participants in an ever-changing society.
